Vintage Shopping In Los Angeles, CA

A "Vintage Junkie" like myself is always on the hunt for treasures.... When I moved to Los Angeles for Design School the first thing I did was familiarize myself with different shops that were filled with Timeless pieces , crazy accessories, and bins of goods to dig through.

If you are ever in the Los Angeles area and enjoy Vintage & Thrift Shopping here are a few of my favorites you need to check out ! ! !

#1 . SWIFT -

3216 West Magnolia Boulevard  Burbank, CA
A Small Charming Shop located on Magnolia Street in Burbank is the perfect place to stop in while you are enjoying the cuban bakery & cafe , Portos down the street. Swift has been my go to place for several years now and If you are not in the area you can purchase off their website & Etsy store. The people there are great and have excellent customer service skills. My most recent purchase is this fantastic sheer shirt I am dying to wear. The Price Point varies from Piece to Piece but usually the prices are very affordable! You will find a link to SWIFT on the sidebar of my blog on the right hand side. Not only Is Swift and Portos on Magnolia Blvd in Burbank but Magnolia street is lined with little thrift & Vintage stores. ( HOWEVER start with SWIFT !!! )

#2. WASTELAND -

7248 Melrose Avenue  Los Angeles, CA 90046
Wasteland has exploded on the Los Angeles area with several locations but my favorite location is on Melrose. I seem to always find several pieces I cannot live without ! With a mix of Old and New Favorites this store has tons to choose from. I would recommend taking plenty of spending $$$ for your finds. You can get some great deals but most pieces are fairly expensive - If you find something you LOVE you better not pass it up because I promise you it will not be there another time around. Melrose also holds some great treasure shops and typically doesn't disappoint.  Wasteland is the more "Trendy" & "Hipster" Look Store.
Shop online as well ... SHOP WASTELAND

#3. AMERICAN VINTAGE -
7377 Melrose Ave Los AngelesCA
American Vintage .... Some good memories here ! This is the place for DRESS UP. I usually find something that I want to actually wear but if you are into dressing wild and wearing old prom dresses etc. this is the place for you! My friend Kella collects Old Prom Dresses that she deems "Kelly Worthy" - so with that said We have spent multiple afternoons getting milkshakes a few blocks down at Johnny Rockets - then dress hunting in the back rooms of A.V. !  The Prices are pretty fair with of course a few overpriced items like most vintage stores. For a good Vintage Hunt of the Crazy Eclectic I recommend browsing through here !   (JUST DOWN AND ACROSS THE STREET FROM WASTELAND)

ANOTHER VINTAGE STORE TO CHECK OUT :

Jet Rag on La Brea is a HUGE place full of fun things but the atmosphere inside is a little strange & musty - If you can get past that you are good to go - Recommend eating before you go because you will be Browsing FOREVER!!!!! Jet Rag is your place for Old Rocker Tees , Worn in Converse and lots of Plaid! They carry EVERYTHING it seems so check it out no matter what you are looking for! Very Fun Place & SUNDAYS $1 DAYS are the absolute craziest! They put bins of old clothes out in front of the store and everything in them is a $1 - It is Awesome!!! GO EARLYYYYY!!! If you are into repurposing clothes you can afford to cut up and sew your own creations with the deals you get on Sundays.

There are tons of wonderful vintage shops to check out in the Los Angeles Area - But Start with these -  HAPPY SHOPPING :)!

Michelle Williams - Style After My Own Heart...

Michelle Williams is undoubtably a talented actress , style icon for myself , and an adorable woman! I love her choice of roles and love to see what she styles on the red carpet. I think the main "attraction" of Williams is her "REAL" appeal. From what I've read in Interviews she seems extremely grounded for a woman surrounded by the hype of Hollywood. After living there for a few years you see people around you get over indulged in the world of fame seekers and name droppers. It's nice to at least think there are people that stay true to themselves and work.

Michelle's Classic Beauty "Vintage" Style is what makes her iconic and fun to look for on Red Carpets...  Her style is very alike my own in both the everyday & event looks... Wish I could borrow some of these pieces...

Some Of My Favorite Looks Michelle Has Worn :

Editorials:

Looking Forward to seeing more incredible red carpet fashion from Williams - and her continuing Movie Career !

Miss Simply Adore' - Liv Tyler

Only a hand full of "celebrity" women would make my lovely list and one of my favorites over the years still goes to Liv Tyler. She is simply adorable , stunning , & stylish. I love that she is always "Polished" but never overly "Made up" and really plays up her natural beauty! I am happy to see her as Givenchy's Poster Girl.

Harpers Bazaar - Slimmer by Sundown - A Fashionable Figure

I found this article interesting on Harpers Bazaar Online. On the rare occasion that you learn of a fancy dinner date or event to go to the following night and feel a bit more bloated than usual or have been a little lax in the exercise department ( which we all do ) These tips could possibly help relieve some of the added stress and self loathing we feel before stepping out for such occasions. I am going to try these and will put an update on here - cataloging my outcome - but for now I thought I would put this out there for those of you who did not read this on Harpers Bazaar.

LOOK THINNER BY TONIGHT

Got a party? These 10 tips will help you slim down by sundown.

1. CUT CARBS AND DAIRY
One look at low-carb poster girl Jennifer Aniston is proof that this advice works. "Complex carbohydrates cause the body to hold water, and dairy is slow to digest; both can lead to bloat," explains Los Angeles nutritionist Kimberly Snyder.
2. EAT STRATEGICALLY
Breakfast: watermelon. Lunch: a salad of leafy greens, cucumber, asparagus, celery, and chicken with a light dressing of lemon juice, apple-cider vinegar, and a dash of olive oil. Dinner: a repeat of lunch. Preparty snack: celery with a tablespoon of almond butter. "Fruits and vegetables with a high water content will fill you up and help flush water out," says Snyder.
3. SOAK IN EPSOM SALTS
Add one cup to a bath and lie there for 15 minutes. "It will draw water out of your cells—kind of like reverse osmosis," says New York dermatologist Francesca Fusco.
4. NIX THE GUM
Avoid sugar-free gum. "You swallow air when you chew, creating gas, and the body can't digest the artificial sweeteners in gum, so you attract and retain water," says Los Angeles dermatologist Jessica Wu. Also, the repetitive movements build up your jaw muscles, so your face looks wider, she says.
5. CONSIDER A SUPPLEMENT
"A blend of taurine, a natural amino acid, and vitamin B6 will help you lose water weight without losing essential electrolytes," claims Beverly Hills endocrinologist Eva Cwynar, who suggests an Abadi Ease Water Retention ($24) capsule three times a day.
6. DRINK TO DEBLOAT
Load up on water, and avoid anything with fizz, as the bubbles will distend your belly. "Plus, studies show diet soda causes cravings," warns Snyder. Afternoon slump? Crack open a cranberry kombucha. "It's a mild appetite suppressant. The cranberry is a diuretic, and the probiotics promote digestion for a flatter belly," says Snyder.
7. CAFFEINATE YOUR BODY
A spiked body serum or gel will reduce puffiness. "The caffeine is absorbed through the skin and acts as a mild diuretic," says Fusco. "You should see a difference in a few hours." Try Rodial Crash Diet ($90).
8. ENHANCE YOUR BONE STRUCTURE
Blend cream bronzer under your jawline and cheekbones. "It makes your face look more angular," says makeup artist Matin. Pull your hair up into a high ponytail or half updo to give your face an instant lift, suggests Wu.
9. BOOK AN AIRBRUSH TAN
A tan makes you look leaner, but strategic shading takes it up a notch. "Ask for a little extra misting on triceps and inner and outer legs to visually narrow them," recommends Los Angeles tanning pro Kelsey Jones.
10. PERFECT YOUR POSTURE
Slumpy equals dumpy. Los Angeles fitness pro Anna Rahe's tip: Standing, lift your butt as you shift your weight to your heels. Next, bring your rib cage up so your shoulders move back and open. Finally, gently draw the muscles running from your navel to your pubic bone back, in, and down. "You'll look taller and thinner," she promises.
